Lookout Ridge
Campout
Our Webelos campout was a great success
despite being cold and wet the next morning from
dew raining from the trees. It was after two
o'clock when we started our day setting up camp as
we all arrived. Each scout set up a tent with their
fathers help and moved their gear in. After the
scouts helped with setting up the rest of the packs
gear there was some freetime before we set out on
what would be a four mile hike.
Anthony S. (Eagle Scout now Explorer) had an
out post set up as part of a requirement for the
explorers, on the other side of the park about a
two plus mile hike out of lookout
Ridge.
So we began our hike on the Columbine trail
head right from camp. Wild flowers were in bloom so
we made a point of Identifying which flowers were
which along the way. The weather was perfect for
hiking nice and cool. There were some good views of
the lake along the hike. After an hour and a half
we made it to Anthony's outpost. There Anthony went
over knots and methods of there use along with how
to build an emergency shelter. After our snack we
headed out on foot on our last leg of the hike this
time on the roadway in single file for the last
mile and change.
Back at camp Jay and I went over fire
building then the scouts cooked up dinner. The menu
was hot dogs your choice of roasting over the fire
or boiling and what I call masons macaroni and
cheese with juice yummy after walking all day.
After enjoying the campfire a bit the scouts put
together a pumpkin pie dutch oven style. Wile the
adults warmed up by the fire for fellowship the
scouts had several games of hide and go seek in the
pitch black, I don't know how they do it. After all
that we were pretty much spent and all went and
sacked out.
Morning brought heavy fog and dew which
condensed in the trees and and rained on every
thing and whatever was left out was soaked. Which
included some of the scouts shoes. Luckily Gary was
up early and had the morning fire rip roaring to
dry some of the shoes out. breakfast included peach
cobbler, Four egg omelets, hash brown potato's and
all the fresh air one could
handle.
As usual after every camp comes packing it
up! Some parents left early before breakfast and
some did not stay the night so it dwindled down to
Jay, Gary, myself and Austin. We took our time
packing up to leave since we had till noon. I hope
everyone had an enjoyable experience and that this
will prepare our Webelos two's for the adventures
of boy scouting! As always I enjoyed the trip and
can't wait till the next. Thanks to our scouts
Quentin, Ricardo, Vineet, Rohan and Austin for
participation and to our parents and leaders Gary,
Jay, Danny, Anthony, Girish, Ritu and Danny's
father. Thanks.
